Council’s vote on Confederate statues ends in deadlock

The Charlottesville city council were deadlocked 2-2 on a decision to move monuments to Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. Due to what people call the racist nature of the statues, many people want the statues moved out of Lee park to McIntyre park. The move could cost the city 350.000 dollars. Councilor a Bob Fenwick, who would have been the deciding vote, chose to abstain from voting on the measure. Fenwick argues that the financial needs of the city, including a scholarship fund would be wiser ways than spending money moving statues that many people don’t care or are indifferent to being in Lee Park. There was an hour long heated discussion after the vote but nothing was resolved leaving several people very angry, especially at Fenwick.
